Retreating. Mixed media on 24×20 inch canvas (not for sale).
“Retreating” started out like “Irie, Man” (see previous post) in that I was experimenting with creating abstract backgrounds – inspired by my lovely artist friend, Anna Schueler. Unlike “Irie, Man” though, I always intended to paint a recognisable image over this one. When I was done layering, there was an area in the centre that looked to me like a perfect perch for a bird so I painted this barn owl, who looked to be “Retreating” from the cold. He had a short stay at the First View Gallery in Stourhead where he drew praise but didn’t sell – much to the delight of my parents, with whom he now resides.
